The Picasso Museum in Barcelona first opened its doors in 1963.
The permanent collection consists of 3800 exhibits, and reflects the formative years of Pablo Ruiz Picasso, one of the most renowned artistic talents of the 20th century. In addition, the museum frequently hosts special temporary exhibitions.
This museum highlights the affinity Picasso – who was originally from Malaga – felt for the city of Barcelona. A strong and inseparable connection which was forged during his youth and adolescent years, and continued until his death. The Picasso Museum in Barcelonawas set up on the initiative of Picasso’s life-long friend Jaume Sabartés, and now hosts Picasso’s early works as well as the complete series of Las Meninas.
