Parque Guell

The Park Güell is situated in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, on the hill of El Carmel, not far from Tibidabo. It offers a complete view of the city and the surrounding coastline. The park was designed by the most powerful exponent of Catalan Modernisme, Antoni Gaudí, on assignment of his patron. The project originally consisted in creating a luxury residential area in the form of a Utopian garden city on the property of the Güell family. However, due to financial circumstances it was not finished as such and became the garden complex it is today, with architectural elements and Gaudí‘s intriguing open air sculptures. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
