A cultural saturday night plan: “THE NIGHT OF THE MUSEUMS” Saturday May 21st from 19h to 1h

Due to  the International Day of the Museums, Barcelona joins the European initiative about opening its museums to the public or free on 21st  May at night. During that night you can enjoy their usual collections as well as participate in many other cultural activities: special exhibitions, guided tours, shows, concerts, workshops, screenings, etc.

On “La meva Barcelona” you can find over 80 participating centers, as well as 6 guidance routes that will help you visit the maximum places in the shortest time.

What’s going on that night in the museums? Here are some examples close to The Urban Suites:

AN EXCITING NIGHT: Guided tours to the Montjuïc Castle every half hour from 19:30h to 24h, and from 20:30h to 23:30h. It will take place multiple circus’ shows (balancing, juggling, tightrope walking…), fun and exciting activities not only for the little ones, but for all ages. There will be also the exhibitionForestier in Montjuïc. The garden as a piece of art.” And if you get hungry … do not worry because you will be able to find a great variety of food all night at the Foodtrucks installed in Montjuic.

A ROMANTIC NIGHT: At the Botanical Garden- Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona you will experience a “Full moon and music night”. At 19h it will be a self-guided tour to the Botanical Garden; from dusk you will be able to watch the stars through telescopes. There will be two jazz concerts at 9 and 11pm, the band´s name is the Free Time Band. (NOTE: You will need a flashlight for all the activities).

A FUN NIGHT: There will be new exhibitions in  the National Art Museum of Catalonia. At the same time, you will be able to have fun playing several mystery games that will help you find out “The Enigmas of the National Museum” (at 7pm). From 9pm to midnight, it will be the time for the artworks talks. And from 9pm, it will be time to sake your body to the rhythm of Swing at the Oval Room, where it will be a live concert as well as professionals who will teach you how to dance Swing.

It will not be difficult to move around, the 150 bus line will make the Montjuïc route until 1:30h

But, if you would like to know what it is being creation life nowadays in Barcelona, if you would like to see those artworks that have not been exposed yet in any art gallery or museum… the “Open Studios Days” offer that opportunity. During a few days the art studios and spaces from different neighborhoods of Barcelona will open their doors to the public:

  • From May 20th to May 22nd Ciutat Vella and Poble Sec.
  • From May 27th to May 19th Sarrià and Gràcia.

In the Poble Sec neighborhood, about 20min. walk from The Urban Suites, it will take place “The Open Studios Night” on May 21st, where the art studios from that neighborhood will be open that night and they will offer all kind of cultural activities in addition to “The Night of the Museums”.
