Although we think visiting Andalusia is highly recommended, the truth is that not everyone has time to do a long tour across the peninsula … in this case, we can also enjoy the Flamenco in Barcelona!
We must not forget, however, that in this land also has its own style of flamenco heir: the Catalan Rumba. Examples are not hard to find from the rumba rhythms of Pescailla and Peret to the deep sounds of Miguel Poveda and mayte Martín or the mythical figure of Carmen Amaya.
Here are a few tips for you to enjoy the flamenco song and dance that accompanies it, as internationally recognized, in the city of Barcelona:
Poble Espanyol is a highly appropiate enviroment for Tablao del Carmen (Avda. Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia, 13). Just crossing though this charming corner of barcelona is a good preparation for an experience of the most authentic flamenco. You can enjoy also a traditional dinner from Andalucía.
At Tablao Cordobés (La Rambla, nº35), in the middle of the Ramblas, visitors can soak up the spirit of the cradle of flamenco. The pure Moorish decor is by the restorers of the Alhambra in Granada, giving the venue the air of an anuthentic Andalusian palace. This restaurant offers, since 1970, one of the most authentic flamenco shows in the city.
Since flamenco is not only Sevillanas and rumbas, Palacio del Flamenco ( Balmes St. nº 139) takes a look at all the styles that make up this masterpiece of the intangible heritage of humanity.
For an intimate evening in the environs of Plaça reial, we find a venue by the name of Los Tarantos (Plaça Reial, nº 17) offering daily song and dance shows aimed at a local audience eager to appreciate delicacy.
Finally, we have a display of the pure essence of flamenco in a venue like no other: the Palau de la Música Catalana (Carer del Palau de la Música, nº4) “Opera & Flamenco” offers a beautiful fusion of melodic opera, Spanish tradition and flamenco magic.
