Gothic Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, also known as the Gothic Cathedral, is one of the most emblematic buildings in Barcelona. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Catalonia.

The current building was constructed during the 13th to 15th century on the ruins of an ancient Roman cathedral which in turn was built on the foundations of a Visigoth church preceded by a paleo-Christian basilica, the ruins of which can be visited at the City History Museum located in the basement of the cathedral. The impressive faҫade, however, was not finished until much more recently (19th century). The building is a Site of Cultural Interest and was declared National Historic-Artistic Monument on November 2, 1929.
